It would be useful to be able to see debug comments within the page when doing development work or debugging.  This would ideally be at the bottom of the main content area, perhaps below a horizontal line.

Agreed, and I was just thinking about this the other day. Some times you want to see the debug output from performing an action. Firefox re-requests the page when showing page source, so it can sometimes be a different query than your previous page load (hit caches, etc).

Patch adding $wgShowDebug functionality

This patch adds a $wgShowDebug configuration variable which dictates whether debug comments are output to the bottom of the main content area, defaulting to false.
