Can you add the icon at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Apple-touch-icon.png to http://en.wikinews.org/apple-touch-icon.png so that it then displays on Apple devices on the home screen. Wikipedia currently has one at the equivalent address. Hope I filed this right, it's my first. Thanks!
Looks like there's a line of pixels cut off at the end here...
Don't know why it did that? Should be fixed now?
Any update on the status of this request? Cheers!
I actually do not see any kind of icon in either place. When I bookmark en.wikinews.org, it shows a screenshot of the site, not a mobile logo.
I think in order for it to work on wikinews, it would also need an equivalent to wikipedia's <link>: <link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/apple-touch-icon.png" /> (I assume. otherwise it would be pointless to have that link on wikipedia) A quick google ( http://allinthehead.com/retro/319/how-to-set-an-apple-touch-icon-for-any-site ) seems to imply that without the link in the head a screenshot is generated as icon. I don't have an iphone to test with though.
As Bawolff has said; if you take a look at the Wikipedia equivalent of the Wikinews link I gave in the first comment, you can see the logo that is there. I can confirm it does work with both Wikipedia and other websites with this on an iPhone/iPod Touch.
According to Bug 13530 Comment 3 - this should be easy. May I ask what the hold up is? All that needs to be done as far as i can tell is to set $wgAppleTouchIcon apropriately.
Done.
