Description Danilo 2009-10-15 22:20:14 UTC
The Wikimedia Brasil, the brasilian Wikimedia Chapter, wants to have a website in br.wikimedia.org.
And, if possible, also have a unified login with the Wikimedia projects and
have the page http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Brasil and its subpages moved to this new domain.
Comment 1 Platonides 2009-10-15 22:52:27 UTC
Who should have access to that wiki?
Should the wiki be public or just some pages?
Publicly editable or not?

Usually chapter wikis access is restricted to logged users. And for that
reason they aren't placed into the SUL system.
Comment 2 Danilo 2009-10-15 23:46:44 UTC
Is it possible to give one of the members of the chapter write access to LocalSettings.php so that we ourselves can do the settings?
Comment 3 Danilo 2009-10-16 00:59:34 UTC
If it is not possible, the wiki should be publicly editable, as the Wikimedia projects. The Wikimedia Brasil is a diferent chapter, our projects are created and managed by volunteers, we want that anyone can give a contribution without have to register.
Comment 4 Al-Scandar Solstag 2009-10-16 01:36:26 UTC
Hi,

Just to clarify Danilo's point.

We have no intention of restricting access of any kind nor to any part of the wiki.

It should work just like any other Wikimedia project.

And it is *very*very* important that we are part of the SUL system.

Working on chapter activities should feel like working on any project for every wiki contributor.

Even for those who prefer to edit only with their IP address.

Thanks!

Comment 5 Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton 2009-10-19 02:27:17 UTC
Hello, I'm requesting that a wiki be created for Wikimedia Brasil, the
Brasilian chapter.

* subdomain: br
* language: pt
* logo: [http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikimedia_Brasil_160x160.png]
* $wgSitename: Wikimedia Brasil
* $wgImportSources: array( 'pt', 'meta' )

Hi,

For the sake of context, this terms Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton added were suggested to us after contact on IRC.

I would also add that, if more information is needed from us, we're ready to supply it through this channel.

Don't worry that we're being verbose about our needs, we're not arguing, we're just careful.

Most importantly, we try to give context here so every other participant of the chapter can understand it if they want to start helping.

About that, portuguese speakers who get here should also check the page on meta where this is being discussed and report there any suggestions.

And for those who are working to "fix" this bug: take your time. We're not in a hurry. And thanks a lot!

Hi,

please, I don't want sound as if I'm claiming this big be fixed, but is it possible to give a prediction when our domain will be available?

We are organizing courses explaining about Wikipedia and wiki usage, around mid November, and I belive this space would be good for we use at the day of the event.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi again,

I'd like to know if it's normal the time taking for fixing this issue (maybe missing technical staff?). Since I asked here and there wasn't any answer, maybe this bug system is not the better way for communicating... Is someone from Wikimedia responsible for this reading here?

Thanks in advance,

Tom

Yes, this is the right place, and yes, someone is responsible for handling these requests (Rob), but he's busy with other things now and hasn't had a chance to get to these requests for the past month or so.

Created, thanks to Fred for adding the DNS entry.

First... thanks ALOTALOT, you guys just won the coolest Christmas gift award ;D hehe

Now just two questions,

How do we best proceed to import all our stuff from the meta wiki? (supposing ImportSources was set as above)

Also, about extensions, there's a good chance we'd like to have something like flagged protection, and perhaps beta test liquidthreads. Should we just create new bugs here when/if we decide on that?

Hugs and merry Christmas!

If the ImportSources were set as asked, you just need to ask the stewards on [[m:SRP]] to give you the "import" user right. Then go to "Special:Import" and import the pages.

Yeah, it's best to just create new bugs for those with links to the discussions.
