When geotagging small things, like buildings, a single co-ordinate suits fine. However, how do you accurately and representatively geotag things which are quite large? Like railway lines, or motorways, or lakes or countries? The usual approach is to find somewhere approximately in the middle and tag it there. I don't think this is appropriate in all cases. I think it is still important to define a central or most important point. Therefore I propose another solution; namely to have multiple nodal points that are geotagged. For linear objects, there would be a series which could be joined up to form a line. For an area, the nodal points would define the edges of that area.
