VERsion details- MediaWiki -1.16wmf4 (r69416) PHP -5.2.4-2ubuntu5.7wm1 (apache2handler) MySQL -4.0.40-wikimedia-log Hi, I am mayurkumar from hindi wikipedia. We 24 admins on our project.most of them are slept and there are no of good users who want protected page editing access. We cann't promote them as admins due to this only issue. but we can may them priviledge to edit protected page to resolve this issue. We have privilege to make confirmed user.So Our communtity planed to give this editing acess to confirmed user.We will make any good user as confirmed user rather than an admin. We have obtained whole community consensus with no opposition. You can watch it at our village pump link-(http://hi.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%A4%B5%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%95%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%AA%E0%A5%80%E0%A4%A1%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%AF%E0%A4%BE:%E0%A4%9A%E0%A5%8C%E0%A4%AA%E0%A4%BE%E0%A4%B2#Enable_protected_page_editing_acess_to_confirmed_user).I have also given our community consensus in the above url.Our whole community is seeking for this protected page editing access to confirmed user so that some good user may edit protected pages. Thank you Mayurkumar(Admin hindi wiki)
If you want people to edit a page, semiprotect it, or don't protect at all. If you want them to be able to edit pages in MediaWiki: interface, this is not going to be implemented because it will every random user to change site inteface and JavaScript. Please clarify what you are requesting.
there are about 31,000 autoconfirmed user. Many of them usually make vandalism.so we make our famous pages like main page, news page, some popular article as protected page rather than semi protection. but these pages need daily update from its experts. So there are some good users which want to edit main page, news page etc.So we want to grant them to edit protected page acess too.One way is to make them admins but it is not possible to make every good person as admin only for protection pages editing acess.Other way is to make them confirmed user and if you will enable protected page acess for confirmed user then they may edit protected page too as a confirmed user. Now if you are saying that it will enable all autoconfirmed user to edit protected pages too then the other way is to enable "group-editprotected" on hindi wiki and grant admins to add/remove these groups. Thank you Mayurkumar(Admin hindi wiki)
Adding to above message: You may also create a new protection level confirmed&sysop only to avoid media wiki pages to be edited. we will make every important article page to this protection level to resolve the issue. So that neither autoconfirmed user may edit our important pages nor confirmed user may edit media wiki pages.By the way if confirmed user will try to edit mediawiki page,we will take back this user group right from him.Otherwise creating "group-editprotected" will be suitable. Please help us, because making unnecessary admins will also lead to editting of media wiki pages. With Regards Mayurkumar(Admin hindi wiki)

MediaWiki: pages are restricted in a different way (editinterface) than pages protected through normal means. Creating a new protection level for confirmed users and sysops seems like the sanest approach to me.
Yes this will be suitable to create a new protection level confirmed users and sysops to avoid many autoconfirmed users from editing good and main pages. We will set our main pages access level to "confirmed users and sysops".Basically the main purpose was to avoid autoconfirmed user from our top and main pages because there are about 30000 autoconfimed user. Thanks for your suggestion and we hope this protection level will be implemented soon. With Regards Mayurkumar(admin hindi wiki)
Perhaps flagged revs might be more appropriate for what you want? Using user numbers to justify anything is suboptimal especially with our global accounts system (for example I have accounts on 68~ wikis, i'm active on two of them).
I agree with you but the main purpose is to give some good user the priviledge to edit protected pages of protection level "confirmed & sysop". if we make our main and famous pages semiprotected then it will be edited by no of autoconfirmed user Which have none of experience of thet field and thats generally happens. Here are very less active admins. We can only manage to write good article and protect them from vanadalism by protecting them. There are some good user which may handle our mainpage subarticles such as news, featured article etc.So if we will make them protect to autoconfirmed level, many unexperienced user try to edit this and make unnessary damage to these articles. Making of "confirmed users and sysops" protection level will grant only admins and confimed user to edit this useful pages. So We want an another protection level "confirmed & sysop" to resolve this issue. We hope that this issue may be resolved as soon as possible.
So should I file a new bug with name "create protection level of confirmed & sysopp" or it will considered under this bug. Thank you With Regards Mayurkumar

Hi, Long Time as compared to other bugs NO reaction on this bug.I think it can be implemented now as we are requesting for creation of new protection level "confirmed user & sysopp in hindi wiki" instead of giving protection page editing access to Confirmed User.We are grateful to bugzilla for implementing some new features in hindi wiki. But this bug is also Important for us to be resolved as soon as possible. So that we can make Our main article pages to this new protection level rather than "sysopp" only. And our good and experienced User may edit these pages. Our commnity hopes is bound to bugzilla and we hope this bug will be resolved as soon as possible. Thank you And sorry for inconvenience With Regards Mayur kumar
Different way of accomplishing same thing has been requested at bug 24505, closing this one. See also bug 24505 comment #4
