Description Frank Schulenburg 2010-08-19 15:24:28 UTC
ISSUE

This subdomain is being requested for two reasons:

* We need a persistant link for giving new users access to the materials created as part of the "Bookshelf Project"
* The link needs to be short and easy to remember

Later, the subdomain will be used for a website (to be created) that hosts all Bookshelf materials.

REQUIREMENTS

Please create the subdomain http://bookshelf.wikimedia.org as an alias to http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Bookshelf

Hi Rob,

I know we should have thought of this earlier but we really need the url issue to be resolved/confimed really really soon (like in another couple of hours, if possible). We need to insert this url into the materials that will be sent for printing tomorrow. I really do apologize for this last minute rush.

Thanks for your help,
Aradhana

This is all setup and working, publish away!

It appears that this is redirecting with an extra trailing / on the end.

I am going to fix this, but is this URL going to be handed out with things past the .org? (IE: Will things be published with deep urls, like bookshelf.wikimedia.org/something) If so, I need to know to keep the logic in there for that, if not I will just make it a very stupid redirect.

Let me know

Hi Rob,

For now it seems unlikely that we would have a url past the .org But then you can never tell and we would like that flexibility for future. Could you please make us a "smart" redirect? :)

Thanks,
Aradhana

Subpages can be addressed, e.g. http://bookshelf.wikimedia.org/something redirects to http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Bookshelf/something

=> closing
