Special:Preferences > Editing > "Warn me when I leave an edit page with unsaved changes" 

The preference is checked by default. When I uncheck it and save, the preference is still in effect. Very annoying, since it duplicates a function that my browser implements much better.

Affects Safari/Mac 5.0.5 (6533.21.1), on en.Wikipedia, en.Wiktionary, and wiki.openstreetmap.org. From memory, this preference has never worked, since the feature was added.

Works fine for me on en.wikipedia.org via the secure gateway, using Firefox 4.0.1.

Have you refreshed the edit page after turning off the preference?

I had.

But the problem seems to have disappeared in the last day. Is there a new software update?
