Description jau1 2011-06-13 07:04:09 UTC
We should be able to type into the search box and jump to the history's page.

For example, we can type wp talk:table if we wanted to to go the table's talk page, but we can't do this for the talk page's history or the "article"'s history, so I am proposing this to be added.

This sounds like a lot of additional complexity just to save some users the one click on "view history".
Comment 2 jau1 2011-06-16 08:43:34 UTC
I don't agree. What meritable reason do you have for NOT including it? Most things are complex, yet they are added.

Agreed with Roan, closing. Not every feature is worth implementing, we have to avoid feature creep by implementing only those features that are really needed to a significant amount of users and are in sync with overall MediaWiki ideology.

How? How can you determine how many people need this, and how many don't?

We can look at how many people have requested it or our own interactions with MediaWiki. Let's assume that only 1 out of every 100 people who are *really* interested in a feature file a bug. That means that you represent about 100 users out of ~700 million ([[Wikipedia:Awareness_statistics]]).

Unless and until we come up with some more information that shows we should give your request more weight, I think Max and Roan are justified in their assessment.

jau1@ualberta.ca: I'm not sure this is a feature we want in MediaWiki core. However, this feature is probably easy enough to implement with a JavaScript gadget. Would that be acceptable? If so, what syntax do you propose? Ideally it should cover other actions (action=history, action=delete, action=protect, etc.).

jau1@ualberta.ca: Could you answer comment 6, please?
