Description Kudu 2011-06-28 01:04:28 UTC
Setup: Debian Linux, MediaWiki 1.17, CentralAuth snapshot for 1.17.x

When going to [[Special:GlobalUserRights]] / [[Special:GlobalGroupPermissions]], I get instantly redirected to [[Special:UserRights]], strangely. However, I'm able to access [[Special:CentralAuth]] and [[Special:GlobalGroupPermissions]] just fine.

This isn't a permissions issue - I have appropriate permissions globally. Additionally, when accessing that same page on Meta, even though I'm not a steward, I don't get redirected.

Although it doesn't happen to everyone, I've seen it happen to other wikis which I don't operate, and its operators express the same frustration.

I haven't been able to debug this. Help?
Comment 1 Brion Vibber 2011-06-28 18:46:39 UTC
Special:GlobalUserRights is aliased internally to Special:GlobalGroupMembership... which itself extends the UserrightsPage base class used to build Special:Userrights.

I don't see anything super-obvious that should result in it redirecting unexpectedly upon view, but can you double-check and confirm if you have any other extensions around which might be messing with the Special:Userrights page or anything else that might somehow be getting in the way?
Comment 2 Kudu 2011-07-02 16:41:11 UTC
This is probably either INVALID or FIXED.

I have this problem on a fresh install; no other extensions whatsoever. Everything works except Special:GlobalUserRights.
Comment 5 Hazard-SJ 2011-10-14 21:13:48 UTC
Matthew Thompson, what version of MediaWiki and what version of CentralAuth are you using?
Comment 6 Matthew Thompson 2011-10-15 00:45:35 UTC
MediaWiki 1.17.8
CentralAuth 1.17.0 snapshot
Comment 7 Matthew Thompson 2011-10-15 00:46:06 UTC
1.17.x sorry
Comment 8 Matthew Thompson 2011-10-15 01:39:31 UTC
The wikis are located at
http://mrmatt.dyndns.org/testwiki
and
http://mrmatt.dyndns.org/rosswiki

If you make an account I'll make you a steward and you can see the problem yourself.
Comment 9 Matthew Thompson 2011-10-15 01:43:06 UTC
sorry for spamming comments! but theres an error with the above links
should be
http://mrmatt.dyndns.org/rosswiki/index.php/Main_Page

and

http://mrmatt.dyndns.org/testwiki/index.php/Main_Page
Comment 10 Hazard-SJ 2011-10-18 01:27:31 UTC
I get "The server at mrmatt.dyndns.org is taking too long to respond." errors for all 4 links above.
Comment 11 Hazard-SJ 2011-10-18 04:29:38 UTC
It works okay with the development version.
Comment 12 Matthew Thompson 2011-10-18 04:52:21 UTC
Sorry Hazard, I'm hosting the site from my MacBook which I had to take into work today :-/ Next time I catch you on IRC I'll set it up. I will try with the latest development MediaWiki, although it's a little annoying it's doesn't always work on 1.17.x. Can anyone point me to a previous build that is meant for this version?
Comment 13 Matthew Thompson 2011-10-23 01:28:48 UTC
OK, I've reinstalled 2 mediawikis, this time on my VPS so it should be up 24/7.
first wiki is
http://111.67.17.102/w
second is
http://111.67.17.102/w2

They are running mw 1.19alpha with same problem :-(

BTW, the only way I have been able to create the FIRST global group is through sql queries? is this right?
Comment 14 Matthew Thompson 2011-10-23 01:46:48 UTC
scratch that. i give up lol, i screwed it up xP
Comment 15 Hazard-SJ 2011-10-23 02:08:05 UTC
I didn't mean the development version of MediaWiki :O - just the extension. I do have the same problem with your sql query issue as well, though. I'll file a bug for that.
