Description Erik Wannee 2011-07-03 10:51:00 UTC
I tried to upload a newer version of File:Parelboom - Louise Schouwenberg (Apeldoorn).jpg
To my surprise, the new version could be seen on the history list, but the old version was immediately placed on top. So the effect was negative.
I tried again to upload the new photo, but once more, this photo was put in the second place; the old photo always 'floats' on top.
Trying to revert didn't help.
I asked the Commons:Help desk, but the only answer I got was to hold shift down while reloading, to empty my cache. But this isn't the problem.

I waited several days and today I tried again to upload the right photo. And as you can see, the old (blue, winter) photo is still on top, and there are now THREE identical (new, green) versions below it.

On the Help pages, I see now that several other people have the same problem: See:
* Commons:Help_desk#Parelboom_problem
* Commons:Help_desk#Strange_fog
* Commons:Help_desk#Uploading_a_new_version_of_a_file_does_not_replace_the_original_file
* Commons:Help_desk#same_name.2C_new_file_-_but_it_does_not_show

There must be a wrong program error somewhere. I hope it can be fixed soon, because it is embarrassing to many people, and everyone stays trying to get the new photo in top.

Thanks in advance, Erik Wannee.

Ah, now I see that this problem is already subject to study under Bug 28613. sorry that I didn't see that. I wish all programmers a lot of success to solve this tough problem. Erik Wannee.

You're saying the old version stays at the top of the history? I'm not seeing that behavior, although the older version does seem to be on top currently, but it's dated July 3rd. Are you seeing the new upload's metadata but with the old upload's image? In that case you might be right and this could be a duplicate of bug 28613.
Comment 3 Erik Wannee 2011-07-03 12:28:26 UTC
Indeed, I have uploaded the new photo (actually, I removed the old one from my computer so that it is impossible to upload the old one) today. Despite of that, the site shows the old photo with the metadata of the new one.
But now I see that it is even stranger: The thumb nail and the big image on top of the page are wrong (old), but I found out now that if I click on them to get the bigger image, the GOOD/NEW one shows up!
Also if I click on the text 'full resolution', I get the right photo.

But the most important is where the photo is shown in the Wikipedia lemma:
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lijst_van_beelden_in_Apeldoorn
You will see there that the old photo of the Parelboom is shown. (At least, it shows to me in Firefox 5 as well as in IE.)

If I click on that photo, I get the old photo in WP Commons.

So I think this problem is identical to bug #28613.
