Bulk uploading some images to Commons using UploadWizard Every time an image finished, it took time off the total time, but I noticed during the upload, the time remaining seemed to be increasing by 1s/s for the duration of the image upload Chrome 14, Windows
The increase is not always 1s/s. If you have multiple files to upload, before the last file the increase is significantly slower. From what I can see, the time is calculated based on the elapsed time over the size uploaded so far times the size remaining, which is correct. THe UW should probably also take in account the state of the current upload(s), not just of finished ones.
The real bug that people seem to be trying to report here is that the estimated time increases when uploads are stalled. The algorithm is pretty simple, as crangasi2001 reports, and if there are stalls it will seem to be increasing at 1s/s. Perhaps the algorithm here can be improved; I haven't spent a lot of time on this. As for uploads in progress, yes, we hope to address this at the same time as bug #24759, which we just assigned to Ian Baker, so adding this too.
