Description Wolfgang Rohrschacher 2011-08-19 10:36:05 UTC
In Firefox 5.0 (working with OpenSuSE 11.4) videos could not be shown in commons.wikimedia.org. No problem in Google Chrome

I found a article "http://www.frankenware.de/webintegration/38-html/53-ogg-video-firefox-x" (sorry, in german) which describes the problem and also the possible solution.

Posted to "mediawiki" because i don't find a "server" bug. Hope it helps.

This is a documentation problem, but maybe something we can handle in the installer (I'm not sure about this).

Roan speculates that we may be able to test this with AJAX -- kind of what I was thinking would be the only way. Adding Chad to get his input.

You could check with the installer, sure. But without Ext:OggHandler, you wouldn't be able to display them anyway.

The OP is referring to videos on commons.wm.o, so I'm not quite sure what this has to do with core MW.

You're right. Next time, I'll read for comprehension.

Testing this on http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Internet2.ogg shows that the file is served with mime type application/ogg

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dog_Drinking_in_Slow_Motion_%28Berger_Blanc_Suisse_called_Bonny%29.ogv
is served with mime type video/ogg

Both work in my browser, FF 6 on Ubuntu. Op's problem is probably upstream.
