Well, if you're going to do it for Wikipedia, you may as well do it for the other families as well.

Not necessarily: it's mostly to solve a typo/guessing issue that probably won't happen for the other projects; but then again, extra redirects would mean cause no harm, so whatever the ops decide is fine with me.

The request has been rejected. That adds more and more confusion to the user. Basically wikipedia.org is only for the projects, wikimedia.org for all the rest.
(additionally, the status page is hosted on a third party website, pointing a *.wikipedia.org entry to them would potentially allow the third party to leak cookies)
