Description martinmaurer73 2011-09-08 08:50:44 UTC
Over the years, the copyright warning (MediaWiki:Wikimedia-copyrightwarning) which appears on every edit page between the input area and the 'Save' button has developed into a big box in many wikis, e.g. in de.wikipedia.org. This takes up a lot of screen space. Advanced users who are bothered by the warning have started to hide the warning via a personal CSS setting.

It would be useful to add a 'dismiss' button to this GUI element, like the 'dismiss' in the sitenotice (Extension:DismissableSiteNotice). The dismissal information should be stored via a cookie. It could also work as a show/hide toggle so that when hidden, a 'show' link would be visible that would make the warning box reappear.

A developer might perhaps check if it would be possible to make this extension reusable for other GUI elements.

As an alternative to cookies, it could also be programmed as a new setting in the user's settings: "Show copyright warning on every edit", default TRUE.
