Description jinjian0604 2011-09-08 11:19:50 UTC
I would like to request the creation of a namespace alias on Waray-Waray Wikipedia. Please allow the Waray-Waray word "Kaarangay" to be used as an alternative to inputting "Category"(namespace 14) in warwiki, such that instead of accepting only [[Category:XYZ]], [[Kaarangay:XYZ]] would also be accepted. Thanks
Comment 1 Roan Kattouw 2011-09-08 13:52:23 UTC
You can do this on TranslateWiki.net . Heck, you can even translate the name of the 'Category' namespace so 'Kaarangay' becomes the canonical name.

I am not sure if I found it. But if you are referring to MediaWiki:Nstab-category/war on TranslateWiki.net, it is not working.

Hello.

I tried to find how to change this namespace name to 'Kaarangay', by experimenting at testwiki and at the local wiki and by trying to find some help on mediawiki.org. But I really don't found what to do.

Can you please check that there is really nothing to do, and if it's the case provide us the name of the system message that has to be translated at testwiki / locally ?

Thanks for the help

It's not a system message, it's a namespace name. TranslateWiki has a separate form for manipulating those. Ask the TWN folks to point you to it.

Yes, I've found it. Thanks a lot for the help, Roan.

All the traductions were done last year. They are published in mediawiki svn repository. It seems they are not implemented in Wikimedia projects. Can you see that?

I believe (but don't quote me) that unlike normal translations, special page aliases and magic words don't get enabled on Wikimedia instantly, but are enabled on generally MediaWiki update (The last one was in October, the next one is planned for some time in February I think)

That seems correct to me, though, manual updates are done from time to time

They're not in SVN. Asked the TW guys about it...

Looks like it's working correctly in war.wikipedia.org now.
