I've updated and extended the login thomaspt did in the following Wikipedia fork:

https://github.com/qedi-r/WikipediaMobile

It works with the current wikipedia branch and adds the relevant menu items. Is there anything more (better formats) you would prefer such changes in?

We're not going to implement this in the PhoneGap-based app which is being discontinued.

Login functionality should go into the new native apps though, and will be addressed separately.
