There is a need to display extracts of articles on mobile phones in general and especially on featurephones. The mechanism of how to do this is not clear, but one idea is to show the title and first sentence of the article. Subsequent article headings can remain collapsed as in the current implementation.

This has implications for SMS-based access to articles and other forms of search that require granular access to Wikipedia content.

There's code in the OpenSearchXml extension to extract first-sentence style summaries (and thumbnail images) which should probably be generalizable... but beware bug 31643 etc, it needs some more work.
