Description Srikanth Logic 2011-10-17 11:45:11 UTC
Santhosh and myself discussed this bug over and we found that there are more rules which are present in standard Tamil typing tools like e-kalappai,nhmwriter,IBUS and missing in Narayam. Filing the below bug the user reported. I would test other cases and report more bugs soon with examples.

== Report from User ==

I started testing today this Tamil99 in Tamil Wikipedia while in Firefox 7.0.1 on Ubuntu 10.04 OS. Found so far the following bug:

On pressing an Akara-consonant 3 times or more, that is in cases of udanilai meimmayakam | உடனிலை மெய்ம்மயக்கம்- for example:

For the sake of this discussion say the key for க is referred to as <key_h> (because in qwerty keyboard the key for h is used for Tamil99 க ) then

<key_h><key_h><key_h> should yield க்கக whereas the keymap here tested yields க்க்க
<key_h><key_h><key_h><key_h> should yield க்கக்க whereas the keymap here tested yields க்க்க்க

The further repetitions of the keystrokes should also yield the same alternating pattern. That is as per the following:

i) When number of keystrokes is odd (greater or equal to 3) the last two akara-consonants remain akara-consonants (examples க்கக, க்கக்கக .....)

ii) When the number of keystrokes is even (greater or equal to 2) then the penultimate akara-consonant gets pulli. (examples: க்க, க்கக்க, க்கக்கக்க .....)

Please note for the other meimmayakkam - that is ஒத்திசைவு மெய்ம்மயக்கம் cases this bug is not seen - examples: ங்கங, ங்கங்க, ஞ்சஞ, ஞ்சஞ்ச, ....

Does it take anything extra for these changes to take effect on Tamil Wiki projects? I have verified these on translatewiki, but the older version exists on Wiki projects.

I thought the changes would be instant and any cache would be invalidated at server end by ResourceLoader, but even after couple of days I dont see them on wiki projects.

Localisations are updated once a day because of the LocalisationUpdate extension. Software is updated regularly on translatewiki.net because it uses the very latest software warts and all. The Wikimedia wikis are updated when patches are deemed ready for production and, this is done for the stuff produced by the localisation team once a week.
Thanks,

Thanks Gerard, will wait for deployment for a week.

May be "Resolved, Waiting for deployment" may be a better option to update on the bug.
