Description lex ein 2011-10-18 09:00:09 UTC
Using the Add/remove Watchlist blue star link:
1. For User talk:username/subpage, wrong wikilink is stored in the Watchlist.
2. For (one) user adding their own User talk:username/subpage, this results in non-logging in My watchlist

1. Example: on an existing subpage like
  User talk:SomeOtherUserNotMe/subpage
when I click the blue Watchlist star, then view under My watchlist/edit watchlist, the wrong wikilink (User:SomeOtherUserNotMe/subpage) is shown, as a redlink.

Event logging still occurs (for me).

2. Attempting to add/remove one's own User talk:username/subpage using the blue star, results in some logging not occurring (Anecdotal report)
This occurred for user and page: User talk:Pine/Signpost , created for Signpost to updated regularly.

Workaround: move the User talk:username/subpage to User:username/subpage . Correct URL is watchlisted, and bluelinked, and logging occurs without missing any events.

Question: is this about a client side Javascript conflict?

Watching a page is supposed to watch both the page and the talkpage, so User talk: being canonicalized to User: is normal.

If notifications are showing up then that could be a bug.

Thanks. I've added a note to that effect at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Watching_pages

The original question came up at IRC en-help, so this will help helpers in future.
