Description Brion Vibber 2011-10-26 23:40:26 UTC
It would be good to show the privacy policy about use of the user's location data before doing a geo lookup with the 'nearby' feature -- especially if we're running the queries through a third-party service that's not even run by Wikimedia.

This should probably have at least a link and a click-through, and be able to get back to it eg from the menu when viewing the nearby list.

Good point. At the moment, we have no privacy policy, according to Kelly. It will be a few months until one is ready. I think. We do need to ask the user if using the current location is ok, which I hope is the case.

Yes, we ask permission during installation, which is the normal workflow on Android.

Does GeoNames have a privacy policy?

I tried and failed to find it.

Closing for now.
Comment 6 Andre Klapper 2012-12-14 11:13:30 UTC
[Closing as "WONTFIX" to get rid of the deprecated "LATER" resolution]
