While many phones don't actually go into a 180-degree orientation mode (portrait, fully upside-down), tablets like the iPad do. Steps to reproduce: * load http://en.m.wikipedia.org/ on iPad fully right-side-up (menu button at bottom) * rotate 90 degrees -- watch it expand the search box to fit landscape * rotate 90 degrees again in the same direction (menu button at top) -- watch the search box be wider than the page, triggering horizontal scrolling updateOrientationSearchWidth() only seems to check 0, 90, and -90 so it doesn't trigger on 180.
This should now be fixed in r101742.
