It would be ideal if instances lived on shared storage rather than on local disks on the compute nodes. Nova has the ability to do this if you first create a volume, then tell run_instances to use the volume for booting.

Ugh. Seems we'll need to upgrade to diablo for this.

Upgraded to diablo and decided we didn't need this. Instances live on gluster shared storage, and boot from volume is problematic from the perspective of HA and a number of other things.
