Description hemantbugzilla 2011-11-13 11:47:22 UTC
In all wikipedias, reference to Sanskrit language counterparts is given as संस्कृत on the sidestrip (visible at left). Actually संस्कृत is spelt as संस्कृतम् in Sanskrit language. So the text of the interface message should be changed to संस्कृतम्. This bug is being reported after consensus on sa.wikipedia about the requirement of the change (Please see [[http://sa.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%A4%B5%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%95%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%AA%E0%A5%80%E0%A4%A1%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%AF%E0%A4%BE:%E0%A4%B5%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%9A%E0%A4%BE%E0%A4%B0%E0%A4%AE%E0%A4%A3%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%A1%E0%A4%AA%E0%A4%AE%E0%A5%8D_(%E0%A4%A4%E0%A4%BE%E0%A4%A8%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%A4%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%B0%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%95%E0%A4%95%E0%A4%BE%E0%A4%B0%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%AF%E0%A4%AE%E0%A5%8D)#Change_from_.E0.A4.B8.E0.A4.82.E0.A4.B8.E0.A5.8D.E0.A4.95.E0.A5.83.E0.A4.A4_to_.E0.A4.B8.E0.A4.82.E0.A4.B8.E0.A5.8D.E0.A4.95.E0.A5.83.E0.A4.A4.E0.A4.AE.E0.A5.8D]]). Thanks.

Last link is link to discussion on Sanskrit wiki. Since this link seems to be not working plz copy and paste it without square brackets around.

Fixed in r102889
Comment 3 Naveen Sankar 2011-11-13 13:49:22 UTC
When will it appear in the side bar? Still I am getting the old संस्कृत
Comment 4 Santhosh Thottingal 2011-11-13 13:52:17 UTC
It will be available in next deployment, most probably this Monday night IST.

And one more doubt.. may be about the
Devanagari Unicode font. Consider the two words given below:

संस्कृतम्

संस्‍कृतम्

Both appear same to me (I am not sure whether this is true for all who use some other Unicode fonts). Both are visibly same (to me). But in Sanskrit Wikipedia, if you search with the first one.. it will directly go to the संस्कृतम् article. But, at the same time, if we go for a search with the second one it will go to the article संस्कृतम् only through a redirect from संस्‍कृतम्. This shows that the two words as shown above are not technically the same, even though they appear to be. There are some technical differences between संस्कृतम् - संस्‍कृतम्. I want to know exactly what is the difference with these two.. and which is correct? And if so, which one is used for naming the Sanskrit Wiki.

With a copy-paste search from r102889 fixation at Bugzilla, I found out that the first one i.e. संस्कृतम् is used for naming the language now. Then what is this second one..संस्‍कृतम्. What is its difference from first one?

Hello Naveen. Regarding your doubt, first of all let state that this is a local issue of sa.wiki. There is only a difference of one special character called zero width joiner, with unicode value U+200D. This is used when we want to halve a devanagari character which is not directly followed by another one (so without U+200D it would appear as halant and not half). e.g. संस् when written with it becomes संस्‍ . You can check it by copy-pasting it on a text box and deleting char by char from last. You will find that after deleting कृ one stroke goes almost ineffective, actually that is consumed in deleting this invisible character. Zero width joiner should be used only when it is necessary to show the design or form of letters, so it seems someone has wrongly created a redirect with this redundant spelling of संस्कृत. Anyway we can delete it if not desired.

Thank you Hemant for your nice explanation. So we were in the right path. Really Happy!. I am waiting for the change to see संस्कृतम् in the side-strip.
