Screenshot of the page

User-Agent: Firefox 3.6 (Windows 7)

Entering a 'Title' of a file in Russian leads to broken URL.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Log in to Wikimedia Commons menu.
2. Select 'Upload file' option.
3. Upload 3 files.
4. Accept the license default
5. Populate 'Title' fields- 2 in English, 1 in Russian.
6. Populate 'Description' and 'Date created' fields.
7. Click 'Next' button

Verify that a file with a title in Russian has broken URL.

Just FYI, the (proposed) Commons language policy specifically states that this should work:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:File_naming

So, y'know, we should probably fix this.

Offhand the screenshot looks fine. What's broken exactly? Are some URLs broken? What are the broken URLs and what are the expected URLs?

Works for me with Firefox 8 on Mac OS X 10.7.

I set the title to "Входит в четверку главных профессиональных russian test" (some random text copied off ru.wikipedia.org ;)

The link as it appears both in the 'to link in html' box and copy-pasted from the thumbnail link after upload:

https://test.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:%D0%92%D1%85%D0%BE%D0%B4%D0%B8%D1%82_%D0%B2_%D1%87%D0%B5%D1%82%D0%B2%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%BA%D1%83_%D0%B3%D0%BB%D0%B0%D0%B2%D0%BD%D1%8B%D1%85_%D0%BF%D1%80%D0%BE%D1%84%D0%B5%D1%81%D1%81%D0%B8%D0%BE%D0%BD%D0%B0%D0%BB%D1%8C%D0%BD%D1%8B%D1%85_russian_test.jpeg

link works fine, loads the page, I see no problems with it.

Is that supposed to link to

    http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:%D0%9B%D1%8E%D1%88%D0%BA%D0%B0_%D0%B2%D0%B0%D0%BB%D1%8F%D0%B5%D1%82%D1%81%D1%8F.jpg

?

So does the URL just get cut off after the D in the UploadWizard, or was that a problem when you cut and pasted to this bug?

Yes. The URL got cut off after the D in the UploadWizard. I could not load the page
Comment 7 Brion Vibber 2011-11-18 21:20:54 UTC
It kinda sounds like you just didn't select the whole URL when copy-pasting it.

Did you click on the clickable thumbnail link? Did it work? Can you reproduce this problem in new uploads?

I selected the whole URL when copy-pasting it. URL was broken.

I retested it with a new file. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:%D0%91%D1%83%D0%B4%D0%B8%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%BA_%D1%96%D0%B7_%D1%85%D0%B8%D0%BC%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%BC%D0%B8.jpg

Now it works. But note: Description English: Україна. Києв
Comment 9 Mark Holmquist 2012-06-01 20:15:04 UTC
This sounds like a misunderstanding, or at the very least something that got fixed somewhere along the line.

As for the description being called "English", you likely forgot to change the language of the default description field, which isn't hard to forget. If you see mistakes like that, you should be able to just fix them quickly in the wiki. The file you linked to is now properly described (I think), so see how I did it in the source code ("edit" near that section) and try fixing the rest of your files in the same way if you'd like.
