With reference to http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Article_feedback/Version_5/Testing, I have been doing Phase 1.0 testing. When I clicked on the "Edit" link in the Call to Action, I found myself taken to a "View Source" page that informed me, in a very confusing way, that I could not actually edit the article, because it is protected. It seems to me that users should only receive the Call to Action if they actually do have the capability of editing the article. (My personal opinion is that the Call to Action does not belong in the Feedback Tool at all, but if it is there it should at least not make false promises.) I'll also note that the page I was taken to was poorly laid out and contained several template errors -- but this might only be a consequence of being on the test wiki rather than en.wikipedia.
Thanks, Bill. Good catch. We also found the same bug 32981 and believe we have mostly fixed the problem by providing a different call to action for protected pages that invites you to learn more about contributing to Wikipedia. We agree with your recommendation that we not show calls to edit if the page cannot be edited. Hopefully the new call to 'learn more' can help engage more readers to become editors. For now, I have marked this ticket a duplicate of 32981. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32981
