An idea that I have had for some time.. Now making a bugzilla entry :) Some languages have a LanguageConverter implementation. Often these languages have a localisation for each script. Sometimes (not always) these conversions are exact mappings without any or only a few ambiguities. In such cases (not when there is ambiguity!) it should be possible to let LanguageConverter convert the interface message, so translator efforts are not duplicated. Take e.g. * ike-latn * ike-cans Both are localised, and their messages are identical. If you transliterate ike-latn to Syllabics (and vice versa) you have the exact same message. So it would be useful to localise to only one of them, and then let MediaWiki convert it to the other script when generating localisation caches.
