I'd be a fan of ctrl-U+<code point> escapes that work on my nice unix computer (but also don't on viz editor) as generally being supperior to alt codes. (let the flame war begin ;)

Fixed in new version of VE through using native implementation.

Mass-moving old VisualEditor tickets to the VE product. Search for this message to mass-delete bugmail.
