By preview, do you mean the existing signature, or the new signature?

the existing signature display section of the user preferences, which is a preview of the user's signature.

Could you provide a copy of the wikitext that you are entering in the screenshot?

The issue is with the interlanguage link, which is visible in the screenshot.

Are you sure it is not a problem with the wikitext that is being input as the signature?

I have tried the wikitext provided for the signature, and attached a screenshow of the preview in attachment 9861 [details].

I also tried the same wikitext on the mainpage of my wiki, which I have attached a screenshot of in attachment 9862 [details], and this does not appear to appear correctly.
Comment 8 Amgine 2012-01-18 18:40:01 UTC
Yes, I am sure it is not a problem with the wikitax.

When the wikitax is altered to include the preceding ':', the preview works correctly:

Amgine / [[:en:User
talk:Amgine|t]]&middot;e&middot;<span
class="plainlinks">omw</span></sup>

But this is not-intuitive, as links in the signature should work the same as everywhere else on the wiki.
Comment 9 Antoine "hashar" Musso (WMF) 2012-12-09 22:41:25 UTC
In signatures, interwiki links are escaped so you can not use them. The correct way is to preprend it with : as said in comment #8. So that is really working as intended.

Comment 11 Antoine "hashar" Musso (WMF) 2012-12-10 00:19:52 UTC
The en:foo syntax is meant to add an interwiki to "foo". By adding this in your signature that means adding that interwiki to the page your inserting your signature in. So that does not make any sense :)
Comment 12 Amgine 2012-12-10 00:30:22 UTC
Yes, it does make sense if the en:foo link is being made on cs.project.org.

The use case is people editing on multiple languages of a single project, but primarily using one language of that project. (For example, editors of pa.wikipedia, hi.wikipedia, and en.wikipedia who prefer to be contacted on en.wikipedia.)
Comment 13 Amgine 2012-12-10 00:33:49 UTC
The larger problem, however, is having two different ways of doing the same thing, one only working in signatures, the other working everywhere but signatures.
