While tapping the hardware search button does bring up the keyboard, the app does not properly set focus on the input box.
Now it looks like the focus on the search field doesn't go away! On a normal tap-in-field highlight, the highlight will go away after clicking on a page. Possibly the highlight should go away after the search is performed in all cases.
Was this on a specific phone? Works fine for me on the Nexus S

Great! Possibly device-specific. If so, please list devices, but we have to resolve and move on.
That's true anyway I think that overriding the function should work fine in any device... that pull reaquest was closed cause it contained another wrong patch ( a cherry pick would be appreciated ^^ ) ... reopened here anyway, no problem: https://github.com/wikimedia/WikipediaMobile/pull/123 ^^ someone could try on nexus S? On my devices works...
