When a new section is created using ?action=edit§ion=new , the text of templates substituted is used as the edit summary. Is it possible to replace that with the actual text before saving? Example: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:WikiProject_Articles_for_creation/feedback&diff=prev&oldid=471753133 should really have the edit summary "Feedback from 41.202.195.239 (16 January 2012)" because that's the actual section heading.

In fact, this doesn't happen only when the template is inserted, but also if you create a new page, put the substituted template on it, and save without filling the edit summary: the automatic edit summary will display the original wikicode (like "created the page with {{subst:...") Also, if you put a signature on it, it will have the same behavior, the ~~~~ will be displayed instead of the actual signature (or timestamp)
