On for instance the fy and the ht Wikipedia, usage of the Haitian Babel extension information shows up in French, the fall back language. The localisations are available at translatewiki.net . It was localised in 2008 !!
Do they perhaps by any chance have templates overriding the messages?
Not sure if LU is at fault
Templates no longer override the definitions in the Babel extension. Furthermore it is the French fall back that shows not something in Haitian. Given that we have the localisations at twn and we do not have them in for instance the fy.wikipedia and the ht.wikipedia it cannot be a matter of a local override. Thanks, Gerard
I found that the localisations for Babel on the Javanese jv Wikipedia do show in the fall back language as well. These are also well established localisations. Thanks, GerardM NB I upped the severity to major because it impacts multiple languages who have fall back languages.
the Lingala (ln) language is also suffering from this it shows French in stead of Lingala Thanks, Gerard
Malagasy mg shows French and was localised in 2009
It was also reported for Võro which falls back to Estonion, so it is definitely a general problem for languages that have a fallback.
Another language with missing Babel translations .. myv - Erzya Thanks, Gerard
Another language with missing Babel translations rue - Rusyn Thanks, Gerard
It's clear that it's a systematic problem for all languages which have a fallback language.
Confirmed: https://ht.wikipedia.org/wiki/Itilizat%C3%A8:Catrope shows "Informations Babel sur l’utilisateur" which is the 'babel' message in fr. The ht message is "Enfòmasyon sou itilizatè Babel". Investigating.

I'll commit the fix properly once I sort out this zero disk space issue on the scalers. Some manifestations of this bug may stick around due to caching. In particular, Babel boxes may still show messages from the fallback language until the page they're on is edited. A purge or a null edit should fix this.
Fixed in r110568.
