Description Amir E. Aharoni 2012-01-19 17:17:24 UTC
There's no way to close the app without using a task manager to kill it. This may be useful. There are other apps that have a "Quit" button, for example Mobile Firefox, games, etc. It's not a big battery waster, but many users may want to keep the running tasks list short.

It seems to be very much done both ways on Android apps

Some have the explicit close/exit button, but some just by pressing back (and being taken back to the previous task/home screen) have this function

An explicit close/exit button is considered poor practice on Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Windows 8 Metro, and other similar application environments. Apps are supposed to slide out of memory naturally by disuse, and should never need to be explicitly closed.

Note that if you hit 'back' until you run out of stuff, it will exit.
