Description foxyshadis 2012-01-28 10:28:36 UTC
Visiting this url causes a python exception, thus I cannot see the file at all without firing up SVN and creating a local repo, when I really just wanted to glance at the perl code in the browser:

http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/extensions/ee/ee.pl?revision=72770&view=markup
from
http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/extensions/ee/

Exception is:
UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode bytes in position 124-127: invalid data

Updating ViewVC (currently over a year old, five versions behind) might fix it, might not. Obviously ViewVC is configured or coded wrong in 1.1.8 if it's trying to do any conversion at all on the file when viewing it raw.

Put this in RT, too: https://rt.wikimedia.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=2357

Sadly viewvc has no package maintainer, so nobody's updated it in forever :(
Comment 5 Antoine "hashar" Musso (WMF) 2013-03-18 08:59:53 UTC
I am entirely sure we are not going to fix this issue. The RT #2357 has already been rejected based on the fact we moved to git and uses gitweb. If one want to see the file via the web, he will want to look at gitweb.
