Seems ubuntu/debian have issues with libnss-ldap when used with tls or ssl. We should switch to using libnss-ldapd. libnss-ldapd has a different configuration file, and has a daemon, though. We need to investigate which files need to be removed. /etc/nslcd.conf needs to be configured, and we need to move some of the mapping info from /etc/ldap.conf to it.
