Description denny vrandecic 2012-02-11 17:08:29 UTC
The proposed Wikidata project http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikidata would require (for now) one mailing list for general discussion, announcements, and to allow people to stay informed. I assume we might late branch into a wikidata-dev and wikidata-announce list.

Please use denny.vrandecic@wikimedia.de as the initial admin for the list. I will then expand the list.

The suggested name is wikidata-l
Comment 1 Philippe Beaudette 2012-02-12 05:30:07 UTC
List created; password sent to denny.vrandecic@wikimedia.de.
Comment 2 denny vrandecic 2012-02-16 15:20:40 UTC
Thanks for the quick setup! I just noticed that there is now both wikidata (the new list) and wikidata-l (the old list). Would it make sense to just occupy the old one, wikidata-l, using the official naming scheme (the list has not been used for half a decade), and then delete wikidata, or should we now just live with both lists and merrily use wikidata? I am fine with both, although I think reusing wikidata-l will lead to less confusion (if we can delete wikidata).
Comment 3 denny vrandecic 2012-02-16 18:00:19 UTC
I am in the process of resolving that with Milos, who is the current admin of wikidata-l. As soon as we have the admin password, we can delete the new wikidata list. Sorry if I caused any trouble! (or we can rename it to wikidata-announce if that is easier than deleting, and use it for that. I will then change the descriptions)
Comment 4 denny vrandecic 2012-02-16 18:03:25 UTC
Milos does not have the password anymore. Can please someone reset it and send it to me or milosh@gmail.com (admin of the wikidata-l list).
Comment 5 Milos Rancic 2012-02-16 18:05:01 UTC
Just to confirm Denny's words. Obviously, the list should be handled by Wikidata team. And I forgot admin password.
Comment 6 Daniel Kinzler 2012-02-28 10:14:34 UTC
*poke*

Philippe, can we just take over the old list? Or is there a problem with that?
Comment 7 denny vrandecic 2012-03-05 16:55:03 UTC
Is it possible to get the password for wikidata-l be sent to the administrators, so that we can take over both lists?

Is it possible to change the name of this list either to wikidata-announce or to close it? The name of this list (only "wikidata") is confusing.

In case the list gets closed, would it be possible to migrate the people already subscribed to it to wikidata-l?

Otherwise we will have to start with confusing list names.
Comment 8 Philippe Beaudette 2012-03-06 08:05:23 UTC
The list has been migrated to Wikidata-l. Passwords sent to the admins. Wikidata is closed down.
Comment 9 Daniel Kinzler 2012-03-06 10:08:59 UTC
thanks philippe!
