Recommended map '$\' => '₹'
Comment 2 Srikanth Logic 2012-02-24 13:17:58 UTC
Am not sure if Narayam should support this, since '₹' isnt related to language. May be Narayam could load custom map from local wikis where people with consensus can implement those changes on top of Narayam.

I've split this out into Bug 34693. This (bug 34650) can be WONTFIXED now, if you think the mapping shouldn't be made globally.
Comment 4 Mahitgar 2012-02-25 04:00:14 UTC
I support global change since Narayam is usually going with mediawiki software. .And media wikisoftware can be used beyond wikimedia foundation wikis so Narayam extension is usable there too.

₹ requirement is for all such mediawikisoftware usage across south asia,Maurittious,Fiji-hindi wikis Any case monetory signs may be needed to be used from any where in the globe.

instead of '$\' => '₹' Wether '$R' will be technically possible without disturbing currnt 'R'=> ऋ

Thanks and Regards

We should not place Rupee sumbol in arbitrary keys, there is a government recommendation for this: See tdil.mit.gov.in/pdf/keyboard/Keyboard%20Standard2.pdf

"All the stakeholders consisting of OS Developers, PC manufacturers, Keyboard
Manufacturers, Printer and terminal manufactures agreed unanimously on the option
‘AltGr +4’ for implementation of New Rupee symbol for en-In Qwerty and INSCRIPT
keyboard layout"

+1 for AltGr+4. Please go ahead for PC. This should work for PC (windows, linux, etc) [non Mac OSX keyboard)

How will it work or Mac OSX? AltGr+4 = ¢ on Mac OSX.

Moving to ULS.
Comment 8 Kartik Mistry 2013-06-25 16:01:08 UTC
₹ is now supported by Bolnagaari keyboard in ULS. So, can we close this bug?
Comment 9 Shantanoo 2013-06-25 17:07:48 UTC
Bolnagari layout is not available for Marathi. Also, IMO, the ₹ symbol should be available for all the layouts for indic languages.
