1) Add the sandbox to yourwatchlist:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sandbox?action=watch

2) Go to
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rc
and mark "Enhanced recent changes (requires JavaScript)"

3) Go to
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Watchlist?hideMinor=0&hideBots=0&hideAnons=0&hideLiu=0&hideOwn=0
and wait until people make some edits.

Only the last edit will be shown, instead of appearing a link to toggle the list of recent edits to the sandbox.

Comparable to bug 9790? I'm not able to reproduce though.

Indeed. This doesn't seems to be happen anymore.
(Maybe I was not using the exact link suggested in (3), and this was just bug 9790 instead)
