Description Patrick Hayes 2012-04-13 20:33:39 UTC
If you share a page to Wiktionary that's capitalized, it won't get found. This effectively prevents sharing from Wikipedia to Wiktionary.

Also, pages with spaces might not work either... and there might be other special characters that don't work either?

Dale, can you look into this? Try to get it as robust as possible.

I have looked into this. It was also brought up twice at the standups.

Did you have a specific idea you would like to propose? Like try all casings of the word. Or showing a did you mean page etc.
If there was an easy way to check if a page exists then that would be useful.

Also, the spaces and special characters should be fine but I can look into those.
Comment 4 Patrick Hayes 2012-04-13 22:30:02 UTC
Hm. A simple solution would be to try the word as is. If we get a 404, then try the word all lowercased. This appears to be what the actual en.wiktionary.org site does - try searching for 'Dale', 'dale', and 'daLe', and see that the former goes to the proper name, and the others go to the type of valley.

Another solution would be to take them directly to the search page, and only go straight to the page if an exact match exists. I'm not sure what the best option is.

[Merging 'Wiktionary App'&'Wikisource App' into 'Wikipedia App', see bug 41922]

Wiktionary app is not part of the Wikipedia app...?
