Description Antoine "hashar" Musso (WMF) 2012-04-25 17:42:00 UTC
With the deployment of service::apache on all beta Apaches, a side effect is that rsyslog was installed and logs are sent to remote syslog.pmtpa.wmnet which is unreachable (it is the production one).

We need a way to pass a specific remote syslog server name whenever we are on labs, project deployment-prep.

Comment 6 Antoine "hashar" Musso (WMF) 2012-05-04 06:10:18 UTC
Need a few changes to describe /home/wikipedia which I have send to Gerrit:

"nfs::home::wikipedia describe /home/wikipedia"
https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/6545

"syslog-server requires /home/wikipedia/syslog"
https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/6546

As a workaround, I tried to manually create the /home/wikipedia/ but that does not seem possible right now :(

I have manually created /home/wikipedia/syslog on deployment-dbdump.

Seems to receive some logs :-D
Comment 8 Antoine "hashar" Musso (WMF) 2012-05-15 18:14:03 UTC
Every boxes inherits some base class which in turn include base::remote-syslog , that install rsyslog to send logs to a remote box (deployment-dbdump).

So this particular issue (configure apaches) is actually solved. Note there is just no syslog server available yet on deployment-dbdump, which is bug 36748.
