our monitoring setup to check puppet freshness on instances uses snmp traps. Among other things this needs this running: /usr/sbin/snmptrapd -On -Lsd -p /var/run/snmptrapd.pid If that goes down all instances will report puppet freshness as critical. Currently this was started manually. Need to make it reboot-safe / autostart it, or best have puppet ensure it is up. We don't have a proper init script yet though.
meanwhile this raises the questions: - does labs nagios still exist - will it exist again - if so, how is the puppet freshness monitoring - do we use snmp traps for it
i suggest rejecting this because nagios.wmflabs.org seems gone. is it? also ask Yuvi about this
Yup, we won't be using that. Even prod's puppet freshness doesn't use snmp traps anymore.
