Description Erik Moeller 2012-05-14 08:40:24 UTC
The "Continue" button on the second screen (after selecting files to upload) is positioned at the very bottom of the screen -- well below the "Add another file" button and the "x of x files uploaded" status message. This means it's easily missed. Indeed in user tests we've seen that some users think their upload is finished after the first step and just move on.

We'll need to fix the layout, which will affect the rest of UW as well as this layout is consistently used for the "next step" button. (We could also consider making the step headings at the top more useful.) But it minimum we should probably right-align the "Continue" button with the "Add another file" button.

Erik, I take it this is only in conjunction with the patch to perform uploads upon selection?
Comment 2 Erik Moeller 2012-05-14 23:05:58 UTC
No, this is a general UX issue.

Here's a very clear capture of this problem in a test:

https://accounts.usertesting.com/ViewClip.aspx?file=1wYSeFqHAk%2fnlGH7tWamSw%3d%3d

Notice that the user doesn't notice the "Continue" button even after staring at it for a while! Everything else about the page suggests to the user that they're done, so besides not being initially visible, the "Continue" button is also not clearly a required action.

Erik, could you have a look at http://i.imgur.com/EPiveby.png and suggest if that is a better position for the 'Continue' button?

The user seem to be confused with the 'All uploads were successful' text as well, so maybe make that into something more meaningful.

https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/52656 is the change involved, I have marked it a draft until I gather some feedback.
Comment 6 Yuvi Panda 2013-04-12 00:25:03 UTC
Anyone have any thoughts on the location of Continue button in the screenshot Nischay provided?
Comment 7 Nischay Nahata 2013-04-12 04:07:47 UTC
The change was merged by jenkins-bot. So I will mark this as FIXED.

Erik, feel free to reopen if you don't like the new position http://i.imgur.com/EPiveby.png or you would like the change be reverted.
