Putting this bug in the TranslationNotifications extension queue is based on a guess. Please forgive me, if I was wrong laking the time for more thorough investigation. On page http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:TranslatorSignup in the form field group "Preferred contact methods", I want to select "email" only. This results in an error message, and nothing of my data is kept. I fact, I can seelct any combination of methods - none of them is accepted. I tried them all. Also, the error message appears to be inserted in a weird place in the DOM tree. It appears overlapping with a the (empty) select-list at the end of the field group.
Can you please tell what is the error message.
There are two, in fact: - Mer han e Problem met jet wat De enjejovve häß - Dinge aanjejovve Wäät es kein müjjelesche Ußwahl. Translating to: - There is a problem with something that you have entered - Your supplied value is not a possible choice. Their respective positions are: - above all message group boxes - in the box of contact methods, underneath all choices. Though, of course, I tried uselang=en, the answer page, and its messages are not in English. This is a long reported and long known bug but has unfortunately been marked as wontfix. Now, we do not know the original messages, since the bug has not been fixed. Bad luck. I hope, my translation will suffice.
This bug is not fixed. Though the page display appears cleaner now, I still permanantly get the error messages "Mer han e Problem met jet wat De enjejovve häß" and "Dinge aanjejovve Wäät es kein müjjelesche Ußwahl." btw. They're in Colognian, even though I used "?userlang=en" and the form fields do appear in english. There is a fieldset box having three checkboxes: Preferred contact methods E-mail Talk page Talk page on other wiki xxx Apparently, xxx should be an option list. The list is always empty. I believe that should "Talk page on other wiki" be checked, this would be the list of other wikis, one could choose some from. Since the second error message, see above, now clearly appears at the right of xxx or replacing xxx, depending on whether "Talk page on other wiki" is checked or not, I believe that there is a bug with empty lists. Why the list is always empty, is beyound my understanding. I would assume that one should be able to specify a list of as many user pages on any wikies in the world that one sees fit.
Works fine for me (Firefox 17.0.1, Fedora 16) when setting only Preferred contact methods: E-mail and clicking "Update Settings" on http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:TranslatorSignup : "Your translation notification preferences were saved." Purodha: Can you still reproduce this?
(In reply to comment #3) > "Dinge aanjejovve Wäät es kein müjjelesche Ußwahl." This is [[MediaWiki:Htmlform-select-badoption]], "The value you specified is not a valid option." > Apparently, xxx should be an option list. The list is always empty. I believe > that should "Talk page on other wiki" be checked, this would be the list of > other wikis, one could choose some from. You shouldn't be seeing the list before checking the box. You have JavaScript disabled as usual, don't you? Even disabling JavaScript, though, I see the list correctly. Maybe you have something else specific to your browser? Try and disable all extensions. I couldn't reproduce this even by choosing ksh as language, by messing up with options in various ways and/or by setting user language to ksh. Closing.
AH, I also checked, purodha has email confirmed and enabled on Meta. I don't know if he did at the time.
