Description Patrik (pajz) 2012-06-07 22:36:35 UTC
I had issues with configuring a spam filter so to not filter out mail from ticket.wikimedia.org. However, my email service provider informed me that the problem cannot be solved because OTRS notifications are sent in an inproper format. Here's the reply I got (from Pobox):

It looks like the sender is not using a proper sender from address, which is causes this:

Delivered-To: <my email address>
X-Pobox-Orig-Sender: <MAILER-DAEMON@gold.pobox.com>

even though we are not the original sender. You may want to contact the admins of this domain, and inform them that their messages are coming without an envelope sender, which is causing mail delivery issues.

Hi Patrik,

so if I understand it correctly, the "Sender:" header is missing in OTRS' emails.

Potentially related upstream tickets that I could find are:
http://bugs.otrs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2283#c4 (which would make this a configuration issue),
http://bugs.otrs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1060 , and http://bugs.otrs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=911 which was fixed in 2.0 already (we are using 2.4).

Would be great to retest this after fixing bug 22622.
Comment 3 Daniel Zahn 2013-07-25 21:18:52 UTC
Please confirm this is still an issue after the OTRS upgrade in https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22622 and add Martin Edenhofer.
Comment 4 Patrik (pajz) 2013-08-22 22:57:36 UTC
I have just tested this again and it is still an issue.

Thanks for retesting!
So what are the exact current affected mail headers and values being sent, which need fixing?
Comment 6 Martin Edenhofer 2013-08-23 12:17:12 UTC
You (the OTRS admin) can set the envelope via Admin-Interface -> SysConfig -> Group: Framework -> Subgroup: Core::Sendmail -> SendmailNotificationEnvelopeFrom

Just enable this setting and enter your envelope sender here.

Any more help needed?

Greetings,

 -Martin

Thanks Martin! I added a new address otrs-bounce@wikimedia.org which is currently set to the Junk (non-spam) queue. I figured we don't want this mail ending up coming in to a queue that hits an OTRS autoreply. Then I enabled the setting and set the envelope sender to otrs-bounce@wikimedia.org and confirmed that envelope sender is now set.
