Description mpkhosla 2012-06-12 14:17:19 UTC
When a single string without space of length 1000 or over is input in the search string before clicking search icon, a server error is displayed. The message says:

Our servers are currently experiencing a technical problem. This is probably temporary and should be fixed soon. Please try again in a few minutes.

This is not an intelligent message for the user and should be trapped and a more use friendly message displayed.

It is unclear to me where exactly you search. Do you refer to Wikipedia's general search here? Unfortunately I can only guess, as this bug report lacks good steps to reproduce...

From what I understand this is in no way connected to the Article Feedback Tool. What the user describes is the regular search box, most probably in the upper right corner of the Vector skin. The error message is the default message displayed when some of the Wikimedia servers are out of service. This is not connected to the search. It can happen everywhere everytime.

I will close this as "invalid". Please don't hesitate to reopen this report if I am wrong and you have more information.
