Description Peter Bena 2012-06-12 16:27:04 UTC
Heya,

I was an administrator of bugzilla until Mark Hershberger left the foundation. I would like to request these permissions again because I found them useful while maintaining wikimedia labs and huggle products, including some additional programs which are tracked here. I would like to move some other sw from google code tracker to bugzilla as well in the future. I can also help with other stuff, like bugs clean ups / vandalism on bugzilla cleaning etc, if it was needed.

Reset assignee to default. I just checked your account history, this was removed by Mark himself, so I think it's best to ask him if it was removed for any particular reason - CCing him in.

It's possible to grant you certain specific rights of the admin set too that should allow you to do what you need to do:

editclassifications Can create, destroy, and edit classifications
editcomponents Can create, destroy, and edit components.
editkeywords Can create, destroy, and edit keywords.

The account has been added to the canconfirm, editclassifications, editkeywords, and developers groups. Please close this if there are no other concerns.

Cool. This let me do all stuff I needed regarding setup of labs and other products. However I won't be able to do any other activities like help with vandalism and such, since that require the admin flag. I don't know if there are some extra restrictions or requirements to have that, but if you have enough admins to deal with that, I guess this should be enough for me. Thanks Mark!

On other hand, we needed to be able to give editbug permissions to people who were working on huggle project as beta testers or devs, which requires also the permission to edit user permissions and groups. But I don't think this is urgent matter since there are only few project members.
Comment 5 Mark A. Hershberger 2012-06-13 15:23:45 UTC
The account has been granted rights to bless the canconfirm, editbugs, huggle groups.

You should be able to grant those, now.
Comment 6 Peter Bena 2012-06-13 15:24:26 UTC
ok, cool :)
Comment 7 Thehelpfulone 2012-06-13 15:25:13 UTC
Thanks Mark, closing as fixed. There are no requirements for how these rights are given out at the moment, I was discussing this with Sumana, maybe somewhere on wiki (MediaWiki.org?) would be an idea.

Added to my backburner list to discuss and document. Likely not soon though.

At least for admin rights there is https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/User:AKlapper_%28WMF%29/BugzillaAdminPolicy which has passed Legal, Security and Operations review, so I'll finalize it soon.
Comment 10 Peter Bena 2013-06-12 20:24:48 UTC
Since it is more clear how the rights are given out; if you needed some help with bugzilla maintenance I am still happy to volunteer here. But I guess you are not :P
Comment 11 Andre Klapper 2013-06-12 20:44:17 UTC
Petr: Oh sure, for component creation etc. (stuff that does not require admin rights) help is totally welcome! I was only after reducing the number of admins, and I'm still after making additions and changes transparent by asking everybody to please file tickets in Bugzilla about changes. :)
