Patrol log is for logging page patrolled via special:newpages. When the new tool marks a page as reviewed, it will also attempt to mark the page as patrolled in special:newpages. There are some cases that a page only exists in the new tool, for example, a page gets moved from user namespace to article namespace. In that case, the action would not be in patrol log since there is no action taken in special:newpages.

Sounds like we need a log for the new tool like review log or something

I assume expanding the patrol log to include both classes of action would result in duplication of entries?
Comment 3 Sumana Harihareswara 2012-07-21 14:36:19 UTC
Speaking as a user, I think of marking a page as patrolled/reviewed as a kind of contribution, so I would want to also see it in my Special:Contributions list, or linked to in the (talk | ... | uploads | ...) list near the top of Special:Contributions.
Comment 4 Oliver Keyes 2012-07-21 16:08:54 UTC
The list thing is a great idea; we really should surface such actions more. I'd be hesitant about including it in Special:Contributions *directly* because the filtering there is so limited as to make it very hard to exclude it if someone just wants to look at edits. But I think "patrol actions taken by $name" should totally be linked.

We can add it to the general log with another filter option called: Review Log, this log should only track review from this tool
Comment 6 Oliver Keyes 2012-07-31 22:06:11 UTC
We actually already have a review log for the pending changes suite.
Comment 7 bsitu 2012-07-31 22:29:15 UTC
or Curation Review Log?
Comment 8 Oliver Keyes 2012-07-31 22:50:39 UTC
oh, got it. So, it'd be *in* the patrol log, but with an additional filtering option, as opposed to being (strictly speaking) a log of its own?

Hi guys, good ideas.

Let's have a focused design conversation in a dedicated email thread to determine what should be in the Page curation log (versus the Deletion or Patrol logs), then write up a specification and update the Mingle card.

I would expect the final requirements for a Page Curation Log to use a similar format to what we did for AFT: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Article_feedback/Version_5/Feature_Requirements#Article_Feedback_Activity_Log

I'll send out an email to get this started tomorrow. Once we have finalized the spec, we can post it back here for reference.
