list, on WMF cluster, of ttf files and their sizes

We have several fonts in /home/wikipedia/common/fonts . That path is used as a GDFONTPATH env variable in operations/mediawiki-config.git:wmf-config/CommonSettings.php

I believe most of those fonts are already shipped as Ubuntu packages via puppet. The relevant classes would be misc::pdf::fonts and imagescaler::packages::fonts.

Note form the README file found out in that path:


I copied all these out of /usr/share/truetype/* from an Ubuntu app server.
This dir was used as the GDFONTPATH, possibly for ploticus for timelines,
but didn't exist. WTF?

... plus FreeSans.ttf which is what EasyTimeline hardcodes. :P

We can presumably dump it if we kill ploticus running from app servers.

The fonts are used for GD which seems to require all fonts to be in the same path.  Does not seem to be a need to puppetize nor update that.
