Description Raimond Spekking 2012-06-28 14:14:58 UTC
I am using the UW now as my default upload tool and I like it more and more, even now as "Commons power user".

I suggest to add user preferences for some fields:

* Information template:
** author
** other_fields

* license template
** attribution

Maybe other fields too, but above are my typical needs, see https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wilhelminatoren_Valkenburg-2490.jpg for an example how I use these fields.

You do know that there is user prefs for licenses? that leaves other options to be auto filled.

Could you elaborate about the author info? I guess that is only needed in some licenses

Sure, I know the user prefs. But this allows only selecting of 1 license and no addition of the attribution field.

More simple: My username is Raymond but I want to be credited with my realname. It's annoying to change username -> realname in every upload. I prefer a user preference where I can store my usual author name and licence combination.

I have created a mockup to make my ideas more visible.

The attribution field is different for different licenses. One has only author, other has author and source, another has reason..

Its not easy to provide a setting for all of them. But there should be a way to specify if you want your username or realname or username(realname) to be used.

I tried to upload a file with license cc-by-sa-3.0 in my local wiki, I entered my real name instead of the username. But on seeing the edit of that image page I saw no difference. Its owner is still [[User:Nischayn22|Nischay Nahata]] :/

This new user preference field should be empty by default. It's up to the user decision to set a value for his uploads. Wikitext should be possible.

Looks ok? What do you expect otherwise?

I expected something different after all I entered my real name instead of username. What difference does it make? that's whats been bothering you right.
