Description Toliño 2012-07-02 19:10:16 UTC
Copied from http://translatewiki.net/wiki/Thread:Support/Fallback_language.

Long time ago I noticed that in Galician (gl) projects when you start typing the name of a special page in the search box you get both suggestions of Galician names and Portuguese (pt) names, as it is our fallback language. However, even when special pages names are translated is it really necessary to have the other ones as suggestions? I think that native and English versions are enough as suggestions. [...] I don't know if this happens in other languages. I think that having such suggestions from fallback language is completely redundant and irrelevant.

[Merging "MediaWiki extensions/Lucene Search" into "Wikimedia/lucene-search2", see bug 46542. You can filter bugmail for: search-component-merge-20130326 ]

This is not a problem with lsearchd, but rather core search (special page title matching is done there).

I often use autocompletion of English names of special pages on non-English wikis, for one. This might be an edge case, but I don't see many users being bothered by the "redundant" autocompletion either.
Toliño, are you still convinced the current behaviour is wrong?
Comment 4 Toliño 2014-10-24 09:36:26 UTC
English autocompletion is good. My point is that having three different languages offering autocompletion is too much. Suggestions are limited, so having three suggestions for the same special page is simply too much for me.

You can close this bug if you think no action is needed. I was just pointing out something that it's wrong in my opinion.
