We are inside the Wikimediaru-l decided to open the main list, and keep current only for mail with confidential information. So we ask: 1. Rename in the current mailing list to Wikimedia-RU-internal (can be another postfix if there is a tradition of naming). 2. Create a public mailing list Wikimedia-RU.
CCing Daniel to this bug, as he is the person on the ops team most experienced with renames. Just a few points for confirmation: 1) You would like Wikimediaru-l to become Wikimedia-RU-Internal, I am happy with the chosen name, future emails sent to Wikimediaru-l@ would go to Wikimedia-RU-Internal@, is this what you would like or would you prefer them to go to the new open Wikimedia-RU list? 2) Given that the current Wikimediaru-l list has been used for presumably private discussions, when we create the new, public and open Wikimedia-RU list it will be a brand new list with no list archives (the existing archives would be on Wikimedia-RU-Internal). This may seem obvious but just confirming the details. 3) Would you like the list admins to be the same for the new Wikimedia-RU list, from my count that would be all 8 existing admins?
1) It is better to sent letters to the Wikimedia-RU-Internal@, in case someone will quote in response a non-public information. 2) Yes. There are no archives for Wikimedia-RU, all archives remain private and belong to Wikimedia-RU-Internal. 3) Yes. The same list of admins.
Okay, Daniel can you do the rename - I can create the Wikimedia-RU list or if you'd like to, you can do it all in one.
How soon can we expect the changes?
Awaiting the rename of the private list by Daniel, I've gone ahead and created the public Wikimedia-RU list and sent the list admin password to Sergey.
Unfortunately the renaming part of this request has been declined as there is not a compelling enough reason - the amount of ops time it takes to do a rename is not worth it in this case.
